People in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are already facing mass displacement, conflict and lack of access to healthcare and essential aid. 

A new outbreak of a rare Bindibugyo strain of Ebola is spreading rapidly in the DRC, and crossing borders to Uganda - it has been declared a global health emergency by WHO. There are over 500 confirmed cases, with over 90 deaths since early June, and organisations are warning that the real number could be much higher. There is no vaccine for this strain, and mortality rates are high.

1 in 4 deaths is a child. Parents live in fear, shielding their children from what is almost certainly a death sentence, but the outbreak is moving fast. Without protections in place, it travels between displacement camps.

Cases have been confirmed in the three states of Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu, where 3.3 million people are already displaced and in need of support.

One of the partners in our network is operating in Virunga National Park to set up screening stations to help contain the outbreak on two of the three main routes leaving the Ebola affected area.  

Cuts to USAID have severely affected the health infrastructure needed to respond to this outbreak, meaning that local organisations are having to do so much more, with far less. Local organisations working in the region are doing everything they can, but they need so much more support. Please donate if you can.
