About this campaign

Back in February when the world was different, I signed up for the first leg of this year’s Thighs of Steel cycle relay from London to Athens in aid of Help Refugees. My part was to cycle 580km (360 miles) from London to Amsterdam starting on the 4th July. The flat part of the route I reckoned. Surely the vintage old bat could manage that on her vintage old bike?

The cause is close to my heart because my family mean more to me than anything. I’ve been lucky enough to raise my children in a stable home with everything we needed. But it might not have been so. When I see families fleeing war and persecution, mothers unable to feed their children, I know that

‘…there but for fortune go you or I…’

That’s why I’m taking on this challenge and that’s why I’m asking you to help me.

Now we know the ride can’t happen but with Covid 19 the needs of refugees are greater than ever and Thighs of Steel have a new plan to help. Around the World in 40 Days is a bid to collectively cover the 24,900 miles of the world’s circumference in 40 days. I have pledged to cycle over the 40 days from 23rd May, the 360 miles I would have done from London to Amsterdam, but I will be doing it in Cornwall and there will be a lot more hills.
