Year Five Walking to Support Refugees

Year Five Walking to Support Refugees

Year Five

Bristol

About this campaign

We are a group of 52 Year 5 children who attend Charborough Road Primary School in Filton, Bristol, UK. With everything that is happening in the world at the moment, we wanted to do something to show our support for people who have to leave their homes due to war. We want to support the Ukrainian refugees, but also any other refugees all around the world.

As a class we are reading A Long Walk to Water, which tells the story of Salva Dut, who walked thousands of miles to escape the Sudanese Civil War in the 1980/90s. At one point, he led a group of thousands of boys from a refugee camp in Ethiopia to safety in Kenya. They walked for hundreds of miles through deserts and danger to find a safe place to rest.

Even though this book is set many years ago, millions of people still have to leave their homes due to wars every day. We wanted to support any refugees who are forced to flee their homes. Choose Love work to support anybody who has had to leave their homes. Reading this book has made us realise how lucky we are.

We are all going to walk one mile every day in March to show solidarity for everyone who is walking to safety and freedom now. We hope that together we will be able to walk over one thousand miles and raise £1000 for Choose Love!
